81-year-old Que. hiker found alive near Baddeck

An 81-year-old Quebec woman who was reported missing over 24 hours ago has been found alive and well, according to RCMP in Cape Breton.

An 81-year-old Quebec woman who was reported missing over 24 hours ago has been found alive and well, according to RCMP in Cape Breton.

Mariette Forest's nephew told CBC the family is overjoyed. Marcel Lavoie said he was asked to bring her medication to the search site.

She was missing her shoes.

Police said Forest left the campground to go for a hike on the the Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, but was reported missing two hours later.

 

Earlier in the day on Thursday a Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources helicopter joined police to help search for the missing Sherbrooke woman.

RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said ground crews spent the night combing the nature trail.

Thirty crew members continued the search in the daylight hours before they located her three kilometres off the trail.
