5 in custody after Dartmouth traffic stop
Halifax RCMP say drug charges are pending against five men after a routine traffic stop Friday night in Dartmouth.
Police seized about 100 grams of marijuana and what they believed to be a loaded handgun inside a car pulled over on Main Street. The gun turned out to be a replica.
RCMP said one of the men arrested was wearing soft body armour.
Last month, in the midst of a rash of shootings and stabbings in Metro Halifax, Nova Scotia Justice Minister Ross Landry introduced the Body Armour Control Act. The proposed legislation will take aim at regulating the sale and possession of body armour. At least one recent shooting victim in North Preston was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
Cpl. Scott MacRae said all five men remain in custody and will be facing drug charges.
