2 die in 2-vehicle Highway 344 crash

Two drivers are dead following a two-vehicle crash Saturday night.

Two drivers are dead following a two-vehicle head-on crash near Aulds Cove, N.S., Saturday night.

A Chevrolet Camero and a pickup truck crashed into each other at about 8 p.m. on Highway 344 between Aulds Cove and Mulgrave, according to RCMP.

"As a result of the collision, the two vehicles became engulfed in flames and a 66-year-old man and a 47-year-old man lost their lives," said Cpl. Scott MacRae.

The 66-year-old was from Steep Creek, the other from Halfway Cove, RCMP said.

Three fire departments responded quickly.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police say early indications suggestions the driver of the Camero lost control while driving at a high speed.

Names of the victims are being withheld until the families are notified.
