Two separate crashes in HRM sent four people to hospital Wednesday night in serious condition.

Two women were taken to hospital after a car struck them on Purcells Cove Road.

A witness told CBC News the women had left an Ash Wednesday mass at St. John the Baptist Parish just before 8 p.m when they were struck.

The driver was not hurt.

Police are still investigating and say it is too soon to say whether any charges will be laid.

Jaws of Life

In Burnside, a collision between a car and a small SUV happened just after 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Avenue and Burnside Drive.

Two occupants of the car had to be extracted by the Jaws of Life and were both sent to hospital in serious condition.

Two children in the SUV were taken to the IWK Health Centre with soreness and stiffness.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
