Two people have been charged with armed robbery at a drug store in Kentville over the weekend, police say.

Kentville police responded Saturday to a call at the Clinic Pharmacy.

A 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

A large quantity of prescription pills, with an estimated street value of $29,000, was recovered, police said.

Last week, police Chief Mark Mander said at least nine people had died in the Annapolis Valley of drug overdoses since he warned the province about prescription drug abuse in the area 15 months ago.

He said police have seen people walk out of pharmacies with their prescriptions then immediately sell the drugs to others.

Dr. Richard Gould, medical officer of health for the region, is looking for patterns in the recent drug-related deaths.
