Cape Breton Regional Police have arrested two 21-year-old men following an armed convenience store robbery in Sydney on Saturday.

Police responded to a 911 call  at 331 Terrace Street on Saturday. Staff Sgt. Reg Hutchings said two men had entered the store just after 12:30 p.m.

"They had their faces covered. One male was armed with a weapon, which was a knife. The suspects demanded money from the female clerk, who opened the cash register and provided the undisclosed sum of money to the suspects," he said.

Hutchings said a man was arrested not far from the store. A second man was arrested in Halifax aboard a shuttle van.

Dwight Miles, the owner of Terrace Street Dairy, praised police for the swift response.

"The panic button was pushed and the police were here immediately. They were wonderful and I thought they did a great job and it's much appreciated," he said.

Both of the arrested men will appear in court on Monday.
