Yellowknife goats saved from dinner table by admirer and local vet
'They are young and I want them to have a long and happy life,' says Teresa Michalski
When Yellowknife's last two downtown goats needed a new place to live after their owners moved out of town, Teresa Michalski came to Matilda and Borek's rescue.
The goats could have ended up on someone's dinner plate, but Michalski found them a new home with local veterinarian Tom Pisz.
Michalski has been feeding and helping to look after the goats for years, after their previous owners first brought a pair north to live in their downtown yard in 2011.
"They are nice goats," she said.
"They were born in Yellowknife and I want to keep them alive. In Yellowknife we don't have farm animals and they are young and I want them to have a long and happy life."
Michalski feeds them with waste vegetables donated by the downtown Your Independent Grocer.
Borek has been ill since the move to Pisz's from downtown, so Michalski is currently fundraising to help pay for the medical bills and to help build the goats a bigger enclosure.
