'Stubborn' fire severely damages Whitehorse apartment building
Fire burned from 3 a.m. until late-morning hours, acting fire chief says
A nine-unit apartment building in Whitehorse has been severely damaged after a fire roared through it Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene on Galena Road in the industrial area just after 3 a.m. PT.
They arrived to find the building on fire.
According to Wayne Smith, the acting fire chief for Whitehorse, nine firefighters rotated in and out of the scene as the fire continued to burn into the late-morning hours.
"It was a very stubborn fire," Smith said after the fire was out around 10 a.m. PT. "The metal roof held the heat in the building and made it very difficult to fight."
Smith says no one was injured and no other building was affected by the blaze.
He says the fire is now under investigation.
