Richard Sidney elected chief of Teslin Tlingit Council
Sidney defeats two other former chiefs for leadership of First Nation
Richard Sidney has been chosen to lead the Teslin Tlingit Council as its next Nha Shade Heni, or chief.
Sidney was elected this week at the First Nation's annual general assembly, at Brooks Brook. He defeated two other candidates — Eric Morris and Carl Sidney.
All three candidates were past chiefs of the Teslin Tlingit Council. Richard Sidney last held the post from 1996 to 2000.
The First Nation followed its traditional leadership selection process to settle on Sidney, with the First Nation's five clan representatives reaching consensus.
Sidney will serve a four year term as Nha Shade Heni.
