RCMP seize drugs and liquor being sent by mail to Nunavut
Joint RCMP-Canada Post operation uncovered shipments of marijuana, booze and cocaine
A joint RCMP and Canada Post operation has uncovered illegal shipments of cocaine, crack, marijuana, and liquor destined for Nunavut from the south.
Approximately 20 kilograms of marijuana, 137 litres of illegal liquor and small amounts of cocaine and crack cocaine were seized in a joint RCMP and Canada Post operation from March to April.
Investigators from the V Division Federal Operations Section partnered with Canada Post to undertake postal inspections at mail processing facilities in the south.
As part of these inspections, investigators initiated an investigation regarding a large shipment of marijuana destined for Iqaluit.
This investigation led to two men being arrested and charged for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Their first court appearance is scheduled at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on May 16.
