Public meeting on Iqaluit dump fire Aug. 25

The City of Iqaluit plans to hold an information session on the dump fire on Monday, featuring the consultants hired to fight the fire. But those consultants have yet to be hired.

The City of Iqaluit is holding an information session about plans to put out the dump fire this Monday from 6 to 9 pm at the Anglican Parish Hall.

Fire Chief Luc Grandmaison says the city has not yet hired a company to fight the fire.

But those consultants — once they are hired and flown to Iqaluit — are scheduled to attend the meeting.

The city was asked to hold the public consultation by Iqalummiut for Action, a group of concerned citizens.

They want to find out how fighting the fire will affect air quality, health, and the environment.

The fire chief says that work should still begin later next week.
