Arctic Connection, a business that ships goods to the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, is planning to open a general merchandise store and fast food takeout in Arviat.
"We're going to sell some hardware, clothing, ... some groceries," said owner Jim Ramsay.
"We'll have a canteen/kitchen in there to start off with. We'll have some fast food takeouts. We've got a few franchises lined up."
He says prices in the North are very high and says they want to help to make the prices better.
Ramsay says 15 to 20 people will be hired locally. He said he hopes the store will open in December.
If everything goes well, he hopes to open another in Whale Cove sometime next year.
