Mask dancer and poet Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory

Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory is an artist, poet and actor with roots in Greenland and Iqaluit.

Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory was born in Saskatoon, Sask., in 1979. Her mother is from Greenland and her father was from England.

As a child, she spent quite a bit of time travelling to Greenland and lived there on occasion.

Growing up, her mother made a point of speaking to Williamson Bathory in the Greenlandic language, and she is now fluent. She also speaks French and English, as well as a bit of Danish and Russian.

Williamson Bathory has a political science degree and is currently pursuing a masters degree in psychiatry.

She is also an artist in many different mediums. She writes and performs her poetry, she does traditional Greenlandic mask (uaajeerneq) dancing, acting and storytelling.

She lives in Iqaluit with her husband and two children.
