An 18-year-old Iqaluit woman is facing charges of motor vehicle theft and impaired driving in connection with an ambulance theft over the weekend.

On Friday night paramedics were responding to a call near the 900 block in Iqaluit when, suddenly, their ambulance was gone.

"At the time there was no one in the ambulance, other than the person who stole it," said RCMP Sgt. Yvonne Niego.

The thief then crashed the ambulance into a fence near a softball field on Federal Road.

Nobody was hurt.
