Grizzly victim identified as Kenton Novotny of Tennessee
Man died while bear hunting in N.W.T. last week
The man killed by a grizzly bear near Norman Wells, N.W.T., last week has been identified as Kenton Novotny of Tennessee.
The 53-year-old businessman from Germantown, Tenn., was killed about 230 kilometres south of Norman Wells on Sept. 17.
He had travelled to the North to go hunting in the Mackenzie Mountains.
Novotny was with a guide. They'd just shot an animal when the grizzly attacked.
A spokesperson with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said officials with the department found and destroyed the bear on Saturday.
They are certain it was the same bear that killed Novotny but they are doing DNA testing to confirm.
They say it is up to guides to train hunters on how to be safe while out hunting.
