Former Whitehorse mayor Ernie Bourassa, who lost his job in the October election, has been chosen to head the Yukon Chamber of Commerce.

Bourassa was hired last week to be the organization's president and chief executive officer.

"I was interested because of my previous involvement with the city as mayor, in terms of economic development and being the past vice-president of the Whitehorse Chamber [of Commerce] and being a businessperson here in the territory for quite a number of years," he said.

"I've always had an interest in business and economic development, and this position piqued my interest that way."

Before becoming mayor, Bourassa ran his own insurance company in the Yukon.

Bourassa was the mayor of Whitehorse for six years and but was defeated in October by then councillor Bev Buckway.
