Eva Aariak, former Nunavut premier, to receive EVE award
On Sept. 25, Eva Aariak will be honoured with an award given annually to female politicians committed to advancing the role of women in public life.
Former Premier Eva Aariak is being honoured with an EVE award.
The award is given out annually by Equal Voice, a national organization working to elect more female Canadians. It goes to female politicians committed to advancing the role of women in public life.
Aariak says she hopes her career has helped inspire young people.
"We hear passionate young people, who are passionate about today's society, about lack of food, about lack of housing, and the kinds of conditions that we are living in now. And there is a great opportunity for them to get involved."
Aariak will be honoured on September 25 on Prince Edward Island.
Previous recipients include Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq and former Prime Minister Kim Campbell.
