Airman's funeral set for Saturday
Search-and-rescue technician died during mission in Nunavut
A full military funeral will be held Saturday in Quebec for a search-and-rescue technician who died during a mission in Nunavut.
Sgt. Janick Gilbert died Oct. 27 while he and two other rescue technicians from 424 squadron were trying to rescue two men stranded in a boat in choppy water.

They had jumped from a C-130 Hercules airplane to the men in the Hecla Strait, 25 kilometres east of Igloolik, but Gilbert died before a rescue helicopter arrived to pick them up.
Visitation for Gilbert will be held at a Quebec City funeral home on Friday afternoon and evening. The funeral is set for CFB Valcartier on Saturday afternoon.
Born in Baie-Comeau, Que., Gilbert was based at CFB Trenton. Trenton base commander Col. Sean Friday and 424 squadron commanding officer Lt.-Col. Joel Roy and other military personnel from Trenton will attend the funeral.
