4 charged after drug bust in Cape Dorset, Nunavut
Police say amount of marijuana was large for a community of that size
Four people in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, have been charged following a drug bust in the hamlet.
The RCMP say over three days, they seized more than half a kilo of marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia.
Three men and one woman have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of property obtained by crime and a number of firearms offences.
The RCMP say that’s a large amount of drugs for a small hamlet.
"It is important to factor in that Cape Dorset’s population is approximately 1,200 people. The amount of drugs seized this week can devastate a community this size," said RCMP Supt. Lindsey Brine.
All four accused have been released and are scheduled to appear in court May 6 in Cape Dorset.
