13-year-old Pond Inlet boy missing since Sunday

The boy was one of two friends who went hunting, and was travelling by dog team.

A search is underway in Pond Inlet, Nunavut, for a 13-year-old boy missing since Sunday.

The boy was one of two friends who went on an overnight seal hunting trip, one travelling by snowmobile, one by dog team. The missing hunter is the one who was travelling by dog team.

The two separated, and the 13-year-old didn't turn up at an overnight camp area as expected.

Simon Merkosaka captain with the local search and rescue, says blizzard conditions in the area are affecting the search.

He says they are getting very concerned as they have not even seen tracks or any of the dogs.

"We know what he was carrying in his qamutiq, what kind of warm clothing he`s wearing," he said. "We have not located his dogs up to now."

The local Canadian Rangers are also helping with the search. Merkosak says the community is rallying together to find the boy and says he's grateful for all the volunteers who are helping out.
