Writ to drop Monday for N.L. election, Williams confirms
Premier Danny Williams has confirmed he will on Monday call Newfoundland and Labrador's next election.
Williams plans to visit Government House at 11 a.m. NT at the start of the week to ask Lt.-Gov. Ed Roberts to dissolve the legislature and call an election.
Williams will then head to the West Coast, where the governing Progressive Conservatives will launch their campaign.
Williams is scheduled to speak to a Tory rally at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook at 6 p.m.
The election will be held on Oct. 9. It'sthe first to be held under fixed-date legislation passed during this term.
The Tories hold 34 of the 48 seats in the house of assembly.
The Liberals hold 11 seats, the NDP has one and two seats are vacant.
