Wind, freezing rain wallop areas of Newfoundland
Blizzard and blowing snow warnings issued for Labrador
Another day, another winter storm for most parts of Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday, following on the heels of severe wind.
Environment Canada issued weather warnings for most parts of the province. Wind, snowfall and freezing rain warnings are in effect for Newfoundland, while Labrador is facing blizzard and blowing snow warnings.
Newfoundland Power is reporting outages on parts of the island due to the severe weather conditions.
Customers in the Cape Shore area were without power around noon, with expected restoration around 4 p.m.
Other power customers on the Burin Peninsula had power knocked out, but no restoration time was released by the utility.
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro restored power around 3 p.m. to customers who experienced outages on the Northern Peninsula.
Motorists have been advised to use caution while travelling on the Burin Peninsula, particularly between Marystown, Grand Bank and on to Burin, where there are reports of black ice.
The Department of Transportation said the Burgeo Highway was closed due to heavy drifting.
Wind gusts in the Wreckhouse area were reported at 146 km/h.
Marine Atlantic cancelled all crossings scheduled for Sunday between North Sydney and Port aux Basques due to high winds and strong seas.
Many flights in and out of St. John's International Airport have been impacted due to adverse weather conditions.
Residents in other parts of Atlantic Canada were facing another blast of winter conditions.
A storm is expected to drop up to 45 centimetres of snow on New Brunswick, and as much as 35 centimetres on Prince Edward Island.
Nova Scotia is dealing with a mixture of rain, freezing rain and wind, and thousands of customers were left without power Sunday morning.
