Firefighters and St. John's officials celebrated the official opening of West Station No. 2 on Blackmarsh Road this morning.

St. John's newest fire station in the west end officially opened on Thursday, with speeches from city officials and firefighters.

The facility on Blackmarsh Road replaces the former station on LeMarchant Road, which had been vacant for some time before the official opening ceremony.

Flags were raised at the new location and representatives from St. John's, Paradise and Mount Pearl were on hand to mark the official opening of the regional facility.

"It was long-awaited, it's much appreciated and we've already started to make it home for the crews that work here," said St. John's Regional Fire Department Chief Jerry Peach.
