Water bomber knocks down C.B.S fire
A water bomber was used Monday to help firefighters bring flames in a wooded area of Conception Bay South under control.
The fire started during the afternoon near Red Bridge Road, in Kelligrews, only a few hundred metres from the Conception Bay highway.
Hundreds of people lined the highway to watch firefighters and the water bomber, as smoke drifted through Kelligrews and Manuels.
Firefighters estimated that an area of about 500 by 1,000 metres burned.
A forestry crew was expected to return to the burned area Tuesday.
Eric Young is a forest fire duty officer with the Department of Natural Resources.
"We'll be sending in at least four of our firefighters and that mostly on a mop up operation," Young said Monday night. "They'll be cleaning up any hot spots that are left over."
Young says fire investigators would be on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
