Temporary injunction granted over arena ice time dispute
A temporary injunction from the Avalon Minor Hockey Association was granted in court on Monday morning, which would prevent the owners of the Rogers Bussey Arena in St. John's from terminating the group's existing contract.
The injunction will allow the association to continue to rent the ice until the case can be heard in court Aug. 23.
In May, the association said it received a termination notice of its five-year contract in late April from the owners of the rink.
President Aiden Craig said he was unaware of any issue until the notice arrived.
Dave Bussey, one of the owners of the arena, said this spring that it was a business dispute, and he could not disclose any detailed information.
The association said the move is being made in order to protect the interests of the young hockey players who would be affected by the decision.
About 400 players use the arena for their minor hockey games.
