Tanker catches fire on TCH near Pinchgut Lake
An oil tanker caught fire Tuesday on the Trans-Canada Highway, about 20 kilometres west of Corner Brook.
Firefighters from Corner Brook raced to the site of the fire, about two kilometres from Pinchgut Lake.
RCMP said traffic was halted for about an hour while crews worked on putting out the flames and cool the tank.
The tanker, which is used to carry diesel, was empty at the time and was destroyed by the fire.
A second water truck was brought in after the fire was doused to ensure that the rig had cooled down.
The driver of the tanker was taken to hospital to be examined, and it is still unclear how the fire started.
