St. John's Metrobus Transit has dropped its fares to $1 every Friday in August in an attempt to increase ridership.

Passenger Ryan Edwards welcomed the lower fare, even if it is just for one day a week.

"I think it's good that it's a dollar for the day, it's awesome," he said.

Students are also welcoming the lower fares.

"Using the bus as often as I do, going back and forth to school, it's awesome," said Chris Hunt.

While regular users welcome the lower fares, at least one regular bus rider doesn't think the lower price is putting more people in seats.

"Regular riders love it, seniors love it, but the buses don't seem any busier to me," said Kelly Boyd.

St. John's city council has been reviewing its public transit service, and has also been looking at ways to increase ridership after a strike that shut down Metrobus for almost three months.
