Snow crab fishermen fined $7K
Three snow crab fishermen in the province have been fined a total of $7,000.
According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Carman Frampton of Burin was charged with having too many crab pots set, failing to take aboard an observer and using gear that's not part of a licence.
He was fined $4,000.
Byron Monk of Monkstown was also charged with using gear that's not part of a licence, and he was fined $1,000.
Both fishermen were convicted in Grand Bank Provincial Court on Nov. 26, and were ordered to pay their fines within six months.
Meanwhile, on Nov. 20, Bennett Butler of Bonavista was convicted in Clarenville Provincial Court of fishing inside the inshore conservation area in Bonavista Bay.
Butler received a $2,000 fine and was ordered to pay it immediately.
