Two seal hunters are safe after their vessel became wedged in the ice near Harbour Round this week.

The Search and Rescue Centre in Halifax received a call just after 10 p.m. Thursday, concerning a 22 foot open boat with two occupants, which was lodged in the ice and unable to make it back to shore because of ice conditions, high winds and blowing snow.

A Cormorant helicopter from the 103 Search and Rescue Squadron was dispatched from Gander and was able to hoist the sealers from their boat.

They were then transported to Springdale.

No one was injured in the incident.
