School transportation system review underway

The Department of Education said it received approximately 140 submissions for a review of the province's school transportation system.

The Department of Education said it received approximately 140 submissions for a review of the province's school transportation system.

The provincial government hired Deloitte in December 2012 to review the system, which costs the government around $50-million to run.

Deloitte's goal is to determine whether it's safe, efficient, and cost-effective. The accounting firm will be talking to representatives of provincial school boards, bus companies, and school councils.

Public suggestions and comments were also accepted online and over the phone.

That public suggestion system closed on Friday, and the education department said all submissions will be forwarded to Deloitte.

A final report is expected in spring 2013.
