Russell takes cruiseship skating job
Labrador's Joey Russell announced he is retiring from competitive figure skating last week but he'll continue to skate professionally, for a while.
The 22 year-old has taken a job skating on a cruise ship for the next five months.
Russell says it felt like the right time to stop competing.
"I kind of felt that I had reached most of the goals that I had really set for myself even 5, 10 years ago. I just thought maybe this is a good time to go, on a high note when I still really love figure skating," he told CBC News.
Russell finished third in this year's national championships and went on to place twenty-four at the Worlds.
He said he will continue to help young skaters in Ontario where he now lives and wants to eventually go back to school to study art or business.
