Popularity of advance polls way up in N.L.
More than 17,000 people in Newfoundland and Labrador cast ballots in advance polls for the federal election over the Easter long weekend.
That's a large increase – 67 per cent – in the number of people who participated in advance polls in the province compared to the 2008 federal election, when about 10,000 people cast ballots before election day.
The riding of St. John's East had the biggest turnout in the province, with almost 4,500 people voting in advance of election day on May 2.
Across the country, more than two million people cast ballots in advance polls.That's an increase of almost 35 per cent over the last federal election.
