This weekend, hear the first part of a very special recording on The Performance Hour. You can hear the show on CBC Radio 2 on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. NT, and then on CBC Radio 1 at 5:35 p.m.

Guests include The Once, Matthew and Allan Byrne, Leeland Wareham and Lori Wareham-Mulroney.

Who would have thought 30 years ago when three young Placentia Bay men walked into Echo Recording Studios on the top of Long's Hill that the album they were about to record would stand as a seminal work in the Newfoundland canon, influencing a generation of folk and traditional performers.

It's a work that speaks to the heart of who we are and who we were. The material is as fresh today as it was three decades ago.

Many of these songs have become anthems in the Great Newfoundland Songbook, and are performed by contemporary Newfoundland and Labrador entertainers on stages around the world or sung on stages around the bay or in kitchens or boats, or wherever Newfoundlanders and Labradorians gather to share their undeniable bond.
