The new premier of Newfoundland and Labrador has only been in the job for about a week, but Paul Davis has had a bit of a rocky start.

One day into his premiership, Davis accepted the resignation of Nick McGrath following a report from the auditor-general about the cancellation of a Humber Valley Paving contract.

Then, politically-unknown lawyer Judy Manning was appointed to cabinet as the attorney general and minister for public safety, without a seat in the House of Assembly.

Manning later said she would not be seeking a seat in one of the upcoming byelections, but would wait for the provincial election to run in Placentia-St. Mary's.

Davis was the featured guest on this week's On Point with David Cochrane.
