Oil companies are being given an opportunity to bid on exploration rights under the waters off northernmost Labrador.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board has included an area east of Torngat National park in its latest call for exploration bids.

Oil companies also are being invited to bid on parcels of land off the west coast of Newfoundland and in the Flemish Pass region, east of St. John's.

Operators have until mid-November to make bids. Successful bidders will be issued a nine-year exploration licence.
