New Quidi Vidi plan 'downright criminal,' landowner says
A new City of St. John's development plan for Quidi Vidi Village is upsetting some residents.
The plan sets out rules and regulations for any new construction in the village, from the size and shape of buildings to the colours and materials permitted.
Longtime Quidi Vidi Village resident John Barnes said the plan is a disaster.
"It's ridiculous. We're looking at a million dollars worth of property — gone," said Barnes, who said a large piece of land that he inherited with his siblings has been rezoned from residential to green space. He expects the market value of the land to plummet.
""It's a bit of land that my father left to us boys, there was three of us … That's it, it's criminal. Downright criminal."
The city will soon begin a series of public consultations to answer questions about the new rules for development in Quidi Vidi.
