Memorial University officially opened is new $30-million genetic research centre in St. John's Friday

The centre will target the province's distinct genetic populations, and some of the inherited diseases that go with them.

MUN President Gary Kachanoski said the work done at the centre will allow for discoveries in genetics that will lead to better health care.

All of the work already being done in the province on genetics will be brought under the same roof, which also houses the most powerful computer in Atlantic Canada.

Part of the plans for the centre include conducting genetic analysis for outside parties, as well, for additional income.
