Moose hits RCMP cruiser near Deer Lake

A moose has struck an RCMP vehicle between Deer Lake and Pasadena on Newfoundland's west coast.

A moose has struck an RCMP vehicle between Deer Lake and Pasadena on Newfoundland's west coast.

Deer Lake RCMP said a moose struck one of their cruisers at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday. 

The officer driving the vehicle was travelling eastbound through Little Harbour at the time of the incident. He was responding to a complaint of threats in the Deer Lake area.  

Police said the moose ran into the cruiser's lane of travel from the eastbound ditch, striking the front passenger corner of the vehicle.  

The officer was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook where he was treated and released several hours later.

The Environment and Conservation department was contacted to remove the moose carcass.
