The heat in a fatal fire in Newfoundland's Codroy Valley this week was so intense that police will not be able to determine the cause.

Joanne Bleich, 55, of Thorold, Ont., has been identified as the woman who died in the fire early Monday morning in Benoit's Siding.

Bleich, who was visiting the area, was trapped inside the house while a raging blaze levelled it.

A man, who police said was the homeowner, was able to get out of the fire alive.

Investigators finished examining the debris on Tuesday.

RCMP said the cause is listed as "inconclusive" because of extreme damage.
