Hebron oil platform reaches final destination in N.L.'s Grand Banks
First oil expected by end of 2017
After a long, and often delayed, journey, the massive Hebron oil platform has reached its final destination.
Officials from ExxonMobil confirmed the $14-billion oil platform was set down on the ocean floor in Newfoundland's Grand Banks on Wednesday, approximately 350 kilometres outside St. John's.
Once the platform is fully commissioned and all regulatory permits are in place, ExxonMobil said drilling operations will begin.
First oil is anticipated before the end of 2017.
