Last three nuns moving on

A 70-year-old convent in central Newfoundland is closing.

The last three nuns at St. Joseph's in Grand Falls-Windsor have been forced to find a new home.

"It's very sad to see the convent closing. I've lived in it for 13 years and it’s going to be a period of letting go for me," said Sister Connie Power, who has packed up and moved her personal belongings.

"When I came here in 1998 we had eight sisters and five of them have died," said Power.

Two of the remaning nuns aren't going far; they'll move into the St. Catherine's Renewal Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The third is going to a convent in Avondale.

They hope they won't have to move again.

The convent building is due to be demolished, but the piano and stained glass windows will be removed first and have been spoken for.
