Demolition has begun on the former Flake House restaurant in Quidi Vidi village.

Todd Perrin, co-owner and chef at the nearby Mallard Cottage restaurant, posted in Instagram the beginning of the end of the Flake House Tuesday morning.

The owners of Mallard Cottage plan to redevelop the Flake House property to build a new restaurant and catering space on the footprint of the long-closed business.

The redevelopment will also open up 39 new parking spaces in an area of St. John's well-known for its lack of parking.
