Fogo Island ferry changes needed: trucker

A trucker who transports goods to Fogo Island says the ferry service can't handle the traffic.

For the past four decades, Cliff Rowe has been transporting goods using the Change Island-Fogo Island ferry run. Now, changes to the ferry run need to be made, he said.

"We needs a bigger ferry, a new ferry, and probably something to do the Change Island run," he said.

Service has gotten worse since the island's popularity has soared as an arts and culture destination, said Rowe.

"In the summer, b'y, I've started in the morning and probably at peak times there you might spend all day there waiting sometimes," he said.

The Newfoundland and Labrador government awarded a design contract for a new ferry two years ago, but it is unclear when the new ferry will be built.
