A recreational vehicle in the parking lot of Tommy's Auto on Empire Avenue in St. John's was destroyed by fire early Friday morning.

Firefighters at the west end fire station were called to the auto repair shop near Jensen Camp Road and Blackmarsh Road around 5:30 a.m.

St. John's Regional Fire Department Capt. Zane Forbes said the RV was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

He said a car parked in front of the RV was damaged by the heat, and the fire melted some siding off of a neighbouring house.

No one was injured.

Firefighters were at the scene for roughly an hour Friday morning extinguishing the flames, and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating.
