Fire levels building at Metal World in Torbay
The cause of a fire that destroyed a building on the Metal World property Monday night is under investigation.
Emergency crews were called to a fire that destroyed a building at the Metal World operation in Torbay on Monday night.
Torbay Fire Chief Mike McGrath said around 8 p.m., a passerby reported smoke coming from the back of the blast shop.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the flames were coming out of the roof.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze around 12:30 a.m., Tuesday.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the cause of the fire.
Metal World fabricates piping, structural steel and other industrial equipment.
