Police in Bay St. George are investigating a fatal moose-vehicle collision that happened Saturday night on the Hansen Highway in Stephenville.

RCMP say ambulance personnel found a 13-year-year old girl dead at the scene, one kilometre west of the Cold Brook intersection of Route 460 shortly before midnight.

According to police, the deceased teen had been sitting in the front passenger seat of the two-door vehicle.

Police said the driver, a 17-year-old boy from Kippens, remains in hospital Sunday afternoon. He is being treated for injuries but is said to be in stable condition.

The driver was reportedly outside the vehicle when ambulance crews arrived, along with two other passengers — another 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy.

All three were taken to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville. The other passengers were also treated for non life-threatening injuries.

RCMP do not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
