Tuesday is eviction day for Occupy NL protesters camping at Harbourside Park in St. John's, according to a letter the city sent the group two months ago.

However, the half-a-dozen people who've been camping in the park said they won't leave until they're kicked out.

"The city sent us a letter, like, two months ago ... asking us to be out by May 15. It's not a true eviction notice until they slap it on the tent," said Ken Canning, who has been living at the park since the fall.

City of St. John's spokesperson Jennifer Mills told CBC News she expects the occupiers to comply with the eviction letter sent in March. If the group isn’t out by midnight Tuesday the city will decide on a course of action the next morning.

To mark eviction day, Occupy NL members will hold an event at the park at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

They said food and drink will be served as a way to thank the wider community for its support.
