Marine Atlantic is advising its passengers to double-check the gulf crossing schedules for Friday and Saturday, after its ferries were held offshore overnight Thursday because of high winds.

The MV Leif Ericson was held outside Port aux Basques, N.L., Thursday night, while the MV Caribou and MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood were both holding off the coast of North Sydney, N.S.

Those delays are expected to affect the crossing schedule going into the busy Labour Day weekend.
