Alleged to have lobbed a power tool at a marine centre employee, threw victim to the ground

Cold Water Cowboys star Richard Gillett is facing two assault charges after an incident in Twillingate this summer.

The charges stem from a confrontation in late June at the marine centre in Durrell, which is part of Twillingate, a fishing community on Newfoundland's northeast coast.

Gillett is the captain of the Midnight Shadow, a fishing boat out of Twillingate that appears on Discovery's Cold Water Cowboys program.

His exposure on the show has made him a household name in many communities.

They say Gillett had climbed up a scaffold and was working on the vessel's exterior when a worker at the centre advised him that he must be wearing a safety harness when working at such heights.

Sources say Gillett lobbed a power tool at the worker and threw the worker to the ground.

Taping was underway at the time for the show, sources say.

Gillett's lawyer appeared by phone on his client's behalf in court Tuesday morning, asking for more time to review disclosure.

Gillett's case is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 20.

Attempts to reach Gillett Tuesday were unsuccessful.
