Central Nfld. hunter pleads guilty

36-year-old Corey Blake of Embree, accused of mistaking a woman for wildlife in a 2011 hunting accident, has pleaded guilty to several charges.

A hunter who said he mistook a woman for a moose in central Newfoundland in 2011 has pleaded guilty to several charges.

Corey Blake, 36, was charged after the woman was shot in the shoulder near Lewisporte. She had been out for a boil-up with her family in November 2011.

Police said the woman, from Little Burnt Bay, suffered a serious upper body injury,

Blake said he thought at the time of the incident that he was shooting in the direction of wildlife.

He's pleaded guilty to three charges including criminal negligence causing bodily harm and hunting without a licence.

Blake will be back in court for a sentencing hearing in May in Gander.
